Parent Power: New Parenting Workshops from Knox County Health Department

In addition to its Smart Start classes (first Wednesday of the month), Knox County Health Department (KCHD) will begin a series of four monthly parenting workshops called Parent Power beginning Wednesday, June 23 and continuing through Sept. 15. All Parent Power classes will be held at 3:15 p.m. in the Community Room at 140 Dameron Avenue. The workshops are free, but anyone interested in attending should call 215-5170 to reserve a space.

New Recycle Champions Program will Encourage, Assist Local Businesses in Recycling and Waste-reduction Efforts

Knox County's new Recycle Champions program has recognized its charter group of champions. This group consists of businesses in the community that are leaders in recycling and waste-reduction efforts. Bush Brothers & Company, Earth Fare, Sustainable Future, Thermocopy and Three Rivers Market were all recognized as platinum Champions, the highest level of achievement.

Health Department to Be One of 41 Sites for National Program to Fight Childhood Obesity

Posted: 1-12-2010 - Knox County Health Department announced today a $360,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). The grant will support improved opportunities for physical activity and access to affordable, healthy foods for children and families in Knox County. Based on a rigorous selection process that drew more than 500 proposals from across the country, Knox County is one of 41 sites selected for the RWJF Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities initiative.

First Electronic-Waste Collection Event to be Held Saturday
